Base-line Survey and Impact Evaluation of SIDBI’s National Micro Finance Programme – Small Industries Development Bank of India, Lucknow |
| |
AFC was entrusted the task of impact assessment study of SIDBI’s micro finance programme through a two-stage longitudinal socio-economic research to assess, on a national scale, the development impact of MFI programmes in relation to different product designs and delivery systems. The socio-economic information on the end users of micro finance services (with focus on the poor and women) thus obtained helped in assessing the extent to which SIDBI succeeded in achieving its goal. The study documented the impact of SIDBI intervention at the end user (beneficiary) level, while dealing with the issues of attrition accurately. |

The First Stage of the study was carried out during 2001-2004 which covered, besides pre-testing of research design, a study of 20 Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) and Baseline Survey (BLS) of 5500 sample households, including non-client households selected for comparison purpose by another agency. |

The second stage of the study which was done by AFC was conducted in four Phases including survey of 5 new MFIs for collecting baseline data (Phase I), revisiting the 20 MFIs earlier surveyed during Stage I (Phase II and Phase III) for assembling longitudinal data and revisiting the five MFIs from Phase I for gathering longitudinal data (Phase IV). |
