REGIONAL CENTRES FOR NATIONAL AFFORESTATION & ECO-
DEVELOPMENT BOARD,
NEW DELHI (RC:NAEB)
Regional Centres for National Afforestation and Eco-Development Board (NAEB), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, have been set-up within the Head Office of Agricultural Finance Corporation Ltd., (AFC) at Mumbai and Northern Regional Office, New Delhi from 1996. These two are among the seven Regional Centres across the country established by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, New Delhi. The Centres facilitates afforestation and eco-development programmes in the Western Region covering Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa States and Union Territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Northern Regions comprising Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh & Delhi.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Centres are as follows:

Provide extension and technical assistance to the States and Union Territories, Forest Department, State Forest Development Corporations and such other concerned agencies. |

Assist NAEB in project implementation and evaluation of programmes implemented through States/Union Territories, Forest Department/Corporations and suggest measures for improvement. |

|
Provide a forum for cross-fertilization of ideas and experience among forest officials, Voluntary Agencies, NGOs, Academicians and the representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions mainly through experience sharing sessions. |

|
Conduct problem-specific workshops & studies relevant to afforestation/regeneration of degraded forests and eco-development of such fragile areas through people’s participation. |

Organisation of Training Programmes in project formulation, Micro-planning and Geographical Information System. |

|
Dissemination of technologies for the improvement in functioning of various Eco-Systems with special reference to standing water bodies; coastal eco-systems, mined areas, fragile forest areas, arid areas and desertified regions. |

|
Monitoring of survival rate studies of district-wise afforestation activities & plantations. |

|
Evaluation of performance of the concerned agencies and documentation of successful efforts in the field of afforestation and eco-development. |
As per thrust areas recognised by NAEB during IXth Five Year Plan period the activities of the Regional Centres were focused on:

These have been pursued during Xth Plan period also with special emphasis on integrated development of villages in fringe forest areas and measures to combat desertification and land degradation.
