Madhya Pradesh Tribal Development Project - The International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), Rome – July 1997

    At the instance of IFAD, AFC assisted Govt. of Madhya Pradesh in preparation of a detailed project report for tribal development in the State. The project area covered Bilaspur Division of Eastern MP comprising Bilaspur, Raigarh and Surguja districts. The objective of the project was to:

  • (i) ensure livelihood security and improve the quality of life of the tribals within the context of the traditional tribal environment, culture and values;
  • (ii) promote greater self- reliance amongst communities;
  • (iii) prevent degradation of the environment.
The main components of the project included: Livelihood Security Activities; Capacity building of Communities and Participating Agencies; Social Sector Activities; and Project Management. The work involved assessment of institutional and implementation arrangements, cost benefit analysis, financial and economic analysis of the project.

Based on the AFC’s Formulation Report, the IFAD funded the Government of Madhya Pradesh to the tune of USD 60 million.
