Karnataka Community Based Tank Management Follow-on Project: Jala Samvardhane Yojana Sangha (JSYS), Department of Water Resources (Minor Irrigation), Government of Karnataka.

    The Department has commissioned AFC to prepare “Project Report with Implementation Plan and Economic Analysis for Karnataka Community Based Tank Management Follow-on Project”. The follow-on project covered about 1191 irrigation tanks spread over in 37 taluks of 8 districts in 5 agro Climatic zones of the State with an estimated command area of over 51,000 ha. The objective of the project, which will be implemented over a period of 4 years, is to improve rural livelihoods, reduce poverty by developing and strengthening community based approaches to managing selected systems.

The project components include:

  • Establishing an enabling environment for sustainable and decentralised management of tank
    systems.
  • Strengthening community development and
  • Undertaking tank system improvement.
